Charitable Giving

For 70 years, Silver Threads Service has been a trusted presence in the Greater Victoria community, supporting older adults through times of change and uncertainty. While much has evolved since our founding in 1956, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to ensuring older adults have a welcoming place to connect, find support, and feel valued.

Every day, we provide safe spaces, meaningful connections, and essential supports that help older adults live with dignity, independence, and a sense of belonging. As the number of seniors in our community continues to grow, so does the need for these services — and we cannot meet this need without your help.

Your generosity makes our work possible. A tax-deductible donation to Silver Threads Service directly supports programs that reduce isolation, strengthen community connections, and improve quality of life for older adults. We invite you to make a gift today and be part of a legacy of care, compassion, and community that has been thriving for seven decades.

This work is made possible through the generosity of donors like you. Your tax-deductible contribution directly supports older adults by creating connection, community, and care where it’s needed most. We invite you to make a gift to Silver Threads Service.

Ways to give

Your gift today makes an immediate and meaningful difference in the lives of seniors in our community. With your support, older adults can stay connected, active, and engaged. Donations may be directed to a specific program or given to our general fund, allowing us to respond where the need is greatest.

Donation Opportunities

In addition to making a one-time gift, we invite you to consider the following meaningful ways to support Silver Threads Service and the older adults we serve.

Monthly Donation

A monthly donation is an easy and impactful way to provide ongoing support throughout the year. By setting up an automatic monthly gift through the secure CanadaHelps website, you can spread your contribution over twelve months — making it more manageable for you and more dependable for us. Even a modest monthly gift can add up to a significant annual contribution, and you’ll receive the full tax benefit.

A Gift in Honour or In Memory

Celebrate a special person or mark a meaningful occasion with a gift in their honour, or remember a loved one with a gift made in their memory. Honouring someone with a donation to Silver Threads Service is a thoughtful way to recognize their life, friendships, or contributions.

Gifts of $20 or more are tax-deductible and eligible for a charitable tax receipt. We will send a notification to the person being honoured, or to the family of the person being remembered, acknowledging your gift (the donation amount is not disclosed).

Planned Giving

Planned giving allows you to support Silver Threads Service in the future through thoughtful arrangements made today. This may include a gift in your Will or naming Silver Threads Service as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Because planned gifts are typically arranged in advance, we recommend discussing your wishes with your lawyer or financial advisor.

A gift through your estate or life insurance enables you to make a lasting contribution — often larger than might be possible during your lifetime — while potentially reducing income tax owed by your estate. Importantly, a planned gift does not reduce what you leave to your family.

Anyone can make a bequest. The amount is not what matters most — it is the legacy of values, care, and community you leave behind. A planned gift is a powerful way to support a cause you believe in and help shape a more caring future for generations to come.

Legacy Fund

Silver Threads Service has established an endowment fund with the Victoria Foundation known as the Legacy Fund for the benefit of our programs and the individuals we serve. The purpose of the fund is to create a long-term source of revenue, grow our assets and build capacity. By pooling our investments with more than 700 other funds with the Victoria Foundation, we are optimizing our returns for the future while also collectively making a profound difference in our community.
