Charitable Giving

Silver Threads Service has been serving the community for over 65 years and is committed to supporting older adults in the Greater Victoria community. As much as times change, some things have remained the same. Our consistent goal has been to have a place for older adults to connect, find support and feel valued. This hasn’t changed since 1956, but the needs in a post-Pandemic world have.

Since 2020 the Pandemic has tested our organization in unimaginable ways and is unlike anything we have faced in our history, we are still dealing with the aftermath to our organization and to the individuals we serve. The impact for all of us has been deep and continues today. For many of our clientele there are increased feeling of anxiety and isolation. Our purpose is to provide valuable connections, safe places to be, and support to improve quality of life and we need your help.

We can do this with the help from generous donors like you. Your tax-deductible donation will make a difference. Please consider a gift to Silver Threads Service to support older adults.

Give Monthly

Please consider an annual gift spread over a twelve month period. Through the secure Canada Helps site an automatic debit can be set up – a small monthly gift can add up to a significant annual amount and you receive the tax benefit.

Give at Work

Does your work place provide matching gifts for your donations or volunteer time? Silver Threads Service will work with you to ensure your support is matched.

A Gift in Honour

Honour that special person on a birthday or holiday by making a donation in their name and we will send them a note to let them know of your gift. Or honour the memory of a loved one for their lifetime of contribution and friendship with a gift to Silver Threads Service.

You may give a tax deductible donation of $20 or more and receive a charitable tax receipt. The person or family of the person you are honouring will receive a note recognizing your gift (but not the dollar amount)

Planned Giving

Planned Giving is a way to create a charitable gift now to support a favourite organization like Silver Threads Service in the future. It is “planned” because it takes some time and thought, and it is best to have a discussion with your lawyer or financial planner and as the gift would be included in your Will. A Planned Gift may also include naming the charity in your life insurance policy as a beneficiary.

A gift in your Will or Life Insurance allows you to support the cause you believe in with a gift you may not be able to afford when you are alive. A charitable gift may reduce the amount your estate would pay in income tax, therefore, it would not impact gifts left to family. Find out the information as it relates to your situation, by talking to an advisor.

Anyone can make a bequest. The amount doesn’t matter – but supporting a cause you cherish, leaving a legacy of values as well as financial disbursements, matters a lot. It’s one of the most important things you can do to build the world you’d like to see.
