September 30, 2021 marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

If you're interested in learning about what a First Nation's advisor has to say about the day and reconciliation consider attending the event below by Zoom:

Thursday, September 30th at 10:00 am the Tri-Cities Seniors’ Action Society has Derek Thompson, Thlaapkiituup, from the Ditidaht First Nation, (one of fourteen Nuuchahnulth Nations on the west coast of Vancouver Island) speaking on Opening the Door to Truth & Reconciliation. Let’s learn from what a First Nations advisor has to say to lead us to some understanding and action.

We encourage all our members to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, whether through personal reflection, education and awareness activities, or by participating in Orange Shirt Day or other events within communities.
